Adoption FAQ

When you see an animal on our website that you like, you should submit an inquiry to get the process started. You will then be connected with a volunteer who can tell you more about the animal or schedule an appointment to come meet them! In general, you’ll fill out our adoption application after meeting with the animal at our facility. We ask for 2 non-personal references (these cannot be a family member) who can attest to your ability to care for a pet. For any adopter, we ask for your building information to make sure you are allowed to have dogs in your apartment/house. This information can be in the form of a lease, phone number of a leasing office, landlord, super, or property website. If you currently have or previously had a pet, we ask for your vet’s information.

If you are looking to adopt a dog, we ask that all members of the household be present to meet the dog (or will be able to come down to meet the dog at some point). This includes other dogs in the household. We want the dogs’ first meeting to be in the safety of the shelter with our staff present.

All of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines before they are adopted to new homes. This is also included in the adoption cost.

Are there fees to adopt?

Adoption Fees are:

  • $120 per cat
  • $135 per kitten
  • $250 - $300 per dog
  • $350- $400 per puppy

We do provide a discount when adopting more than one animal.

What is the adoption process?

Before falling in love with one of our pets, please make sure that you are:

  • At least 18 years of age with a valid state-issued photo ID. If current address does not match ID, you must provide copies of three bills verifying your current address.
  • Able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide necessary training, medical treatment, and proper care for the animal over the course of their life.

Adoption Procedures

When you arrive, a staff member can take you through our kennels or cat rooms. Please take the time to observe and notice all our pets. All of the pets deserve loving homes and our goal is to match up the right pet with the right family.

If there is an animal you are interested in interacting with, ask the staff member  you are with to meet with them in one of our “meet & greet” rooms.

If, after socializing with an animal, you are interested in adopting, ask to complete our Adoption Application. Once completed, a staff member will review your completed application with you and get clarification on anything if needed.

We do not do same day adoptions. This ‘waiting period’ will also allow the adopter time to reflect upon the responsibility associated with adopting an animal and ensure that it is a commitment they are willing to make.

If you previously filled out an adoption application, you will need to fill out another one. We do not keep applications. A new application must be filled out each time.
