Please do not bring an animal to the shelter without making previous arrangements as we may not always be able to immediately accommodate your request. We are open only by appointment.
If you need to return an animal that you adopted from us, please mention this when you contact us and include their original shelter name or Precious Paws number as this will help us obtain their previous records.

Cost to Surrender a Pet:
Please note that we will ask for a $100 surrender fee per owned pet. This fee will be put towards the cost of your pet’s care with us.

If your surrender was approved by the Shelter Manager and you have filled out the Surrender Form, please click the button below to pay the surrender fee. This fee is not refundable. PayPal charges are added onto the fee.

PLEASE NOTE: Owner surrendered animals are accepted on a space-available basis only. Precious Paws Humane Society of Chisholm has limited ability to accept owner surrender pets and does so after evaluation on a case by case basis taking into consideration concerns such as public safety, bite risk, other severe behavior concerns, severe medical need, and hoarding situations. If the shelter has reached capacity or is unable to provide humane housing for your pet, you may be asked to seek alternate arrangements. If we believe we may be able to work with an animal, we always lean towards taking them in and giving them a chance but when we know that is not possible, we are upfront with pet owners. These are incredibly difficult decisions for pet owners and we work very hard to handle every situation with honesty and respect regardless of the decisions made. Please be advised that owner surrendered pets become the property of Precious Paws immediately upon surrender.
Your information will also be shared with local animal shelters to be put on their "Do Not Adopt To" lists.

We recognize that owners sometimes have to make the difficult decision to give up their animals. If you are considering giving up your pet, we encourage you to reach out to us as soon as possible so that we can learn more about your pet and why you might be considering rehoming them. Depending on the specifics of your situation, we may be able to help you with options for working with a trainer on behavior issues, refer you to a breed-specific private adoption group or direct you to other resources.
